Your Wild Wales 4×4 Adventure

The day begins in Llandovery before heading into the quieter landscapes of Mid Wales.

From here, we leave the main roads behind and explore a carefully selected combination of minor roads and legal green lanes as we make our way towards the Cambrian Mountains.

As the day progresses, the terrain becomes increasingly remote, with changing surfaces, technical sections and some spectacular views across the Welsh countryside.

The highlight is Strata Florida, one of the best-known 4×4 green lane routes in Wales.

There will be opportunities to stop during the day, including a wilderness lunch break. Please bring your own packed lunch and drinks.

The tour finishes at approximately 16:30 near Pontrhydfendigaid and Strata Florida Abbey.

• Extensive local route knowledge
• Lead/support vehicle equipped for emergencies
• Garmin inReach satellite communication
• PMR/CB radio communication supplied for participants

Is This Tour Suitable for Me?

The Wild Wales Explorer is aimed at 4×4 owners with a suitable vehicle and some previous experience.

Difficulty: Moderate to technical

Some sections can become significantly more challenging following prolonged rain or poor weather.

We recommend a vehicle equipped with:

• Low-range gearing or an equivalent capable 4×4 system
• Minimum All Terrain tyres in good condition
• Suitable ground clearance
• Front and rear recovery points

The tour is suitable for vehicles such as the INEOS Grenadier, Land Rover Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi L200 and similar capable 4×4 vehicles.

If you’re unsure whether your vehicle is suitable, please contact us before booking.

New to Green Laning?

This particular tour is not recommended as a first experience of technical 4×4 driving.

If you’re relatively new to driving your vehicle on challenging terrain, please contact us. We can advise whether this tour is suitable or recommend a more appropriate guided experience.

Bring Your Own 4×4

This is an owner-driver tour.

You drive your own vehicle throughout the adventure, allowing you to gain experience and confidence in the 4×4 you actually own.

We strongly believe in learning what a standard, capable 4×4 can do before assuming extensive modifications are necessary.

Important Vehicle Information

Green laning naturally carries some risk to your vehicle.

Vegetation can cause light scratches to paintwork, while rocks, ruts and uneven surfaces can potentially cause cosmetic damage to wheels, tyres or other components.

By booking, you acknowledge that you are driving your own vehicle on unsurfaced routes and accept the normal risks associated with this type of activity.

Strata Florida & Weather Conditions

Strata Florida includes several water crossings and its condition can change considerably depending on recent rainfall.

Safety always comes first.

If river levels, weather, lane conditions, closures or other circumstances make part of the planned route unsuitable, an alternative route may be used.

This is one of the advantages of joining a guided tour: the route can be adapted using current conditions and local knowledge rather than simply following a predetermined GPX track.

What to Bring

Please bring:

• Suitable outdoor clothing and footwear
• Waterproof clothing
• Packed lunch
• Drinks for the day
• Any personal medication
• A fully fuelled vehicle

Dogs are welcome, but owners remain responsible for them throughout the day. Dogs should be kept under appropriate control and on a lead where required.

Booking

Price: £120 per vehicle including VAT.

The price is per vehicle rather than per person, making the tour suitable for individuals, couples, friends and families travelling together.

Full payment is required to secure your place.

Gift vouchers are also available.

Please refer to our full booking terms and conditions for cancellation and amendment conditions.
