Explore the Green Lanes of North & Mid Wales
Join us for a full day exploring some of the spectacular green lanes, mountain landscapes and remote scenery of North and Mid Wales.
Starting near Dolgellau, the route heads through the dramatic landscape around Trawsfynydd and Coed y Brenin, before continuing towards the coast with far-reaching views across Cardigan Bay and the Llŷn Peninsula.
The day’s route is planned to include a varied selection of well-known and lesser-travelled green lanes, including routes such as Bomber Lane and Carn March Arthur, subject to conditions and legal access on the day.
This is a genuine owner-driver 4×4 experience. You drive your own vehicle while following an experienced guide through some of the best legal green lanes Wales has to offer.

With over 35 years’ experience exploring Wales by 4×4, your guide brings extensive local knowledge of the lanes, landscape and changing conditions.
Keeping groups small helps create a relaxed and enjoyable day while reducing our impact on the routes and other countryside users.
A fully equipped support vehicle leads the tour, and PMR radios are provided to help keep the group in contact throughout the day.
Route & Vehicle Suitability
This tour includes a mixture of moderate and more technical green lanes and is intended for suitable 4×4 vehicles.
Vehicles should have:
- Low range or an appropriate equivalent 4×4 system
- Good ground clearance
- A minimum of suitable all-terrain tyres
- Suitable recovery points
- Good mechanical condition
Standard vehicles can be very capable, and extensive modifications are not necessarily required. Please contact us before booking if you are unsure whether your vehicle is suitable.
The tour is suitable for vehicles including the INEOS Grenadier, Land Rover Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200 and Isuzu D-Max, together with other appropriately equipped 4×4 vehicles.
What to Expect
The day combines green laning with some of the outstanding scenery of North and Mid Wales.
There will be opportunities to stop during the day to enjoy the landscape, take photographs and have a break. Please bring a packed lunch and drinks, as our lunch stop will normally be somewhere out on the route rather than at a café or restaurant.
Tours are suitable for individual drivers, couples, families and groups.
Dogs are welcome, although they must be kept under appropriate control and may need to remain on a lead on certain sections of the route.
Please Be Aware
Green laning can involve narrow tracks, vegetation, rocks, mud, uneven surfaces and other natural obstacles.
Light scratching and minor cosmetic vehicle damage can occur, including scratches to paintwork or alloy wheels. By booking, you should be comfortable using your vehicle in this type of environment.
Routes may need to be changed at short notice because of weather, ground conditions, temporary restrictions, closures or other circumstances.
Our priority is to use legal routes responsibly while providing an enjoyable and memorable day exploring Wales by 4×4.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a modified 4×4?
Not necessarily. Standard 4×4 vehicles can be very capable, and extensive modifications are not required for many of our tours. Your vehicle does, however, need to be suitable for the planned routes. If you are unsure, please contact us before booking.
What tyres do I need?
We recommend a minimum of suitable all-terrain tyres for this tour. Road-biased tyres may not provide sufficient traction or protection for some of the more technical sections.
Can I bring passengers?
Yes. The price is £120 including VAT per vehicle, not per person. You are welcome to bring passengers within the legal seating capacity of your vehicle.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes. Dogs are welcome, although they must be kept under appropriate control and may need to remain on a lead on certain sections of the route.
What happens if a green lane is closed?
Routes can change because of temporary restrictions, legal access, weather or ground conditions. If a planned route cannot be used, your guide will alter the itinerary where practical while maintaining the overall experience of the day.
