Secret North of Portugal with Dream Overland

Secret North of Portugal with Dream Overland

Hidden and isolated for many years, the secret north of Portugal has maintained its original identity and today is probably one of the country’s best kept secrets.

This is a land of small villages lost in time and old legends that go back to the birth of the nationality in the 12th century. Along the route, you can see castles and forts from the medieval times and drive across villages where the most genuine of community traditions still live on in perfect harmony with nature.

This is also one of the most mountainous parts of the country with nature offering visitors some amazing views over the hills and the river valleys.  The Douro is the biggest river in the region and is famous worldwide for being the oldest demarcated wine region in the world. The river also forms the south limit of the northern part of Portugal, where this trip takes place.

History, culture, gastronomy: This trip is a concentrate of diversity, natural beauty and centuries-old traditions.

The accommodation on this trip will be a mix of quality campsites, mountain huts and countryside B&B’s with a wow factor, depending on the weather and the location.
