This Pyrenees 4×4 overland tour is ideal tour for couples, individuals or families, crossing the Pyrenees this tour will take us from St Jean Pied de Port, France to Andorra and back on various trails, including the Bardenas Reales and Monegros.
Subscribe to our channelI have included the suggested ferry crossings below (not included). An alternative is to travel from the UK via Calais/Coquelles on ferry or Eurotunnel. The journey is around 680 miles to the starting point from Coquelles. Approximate toll cost £100 plus fuel.
*Friday 5th July 2024 – Portsmouth to Santander with Brittany Ferries*
*Saturday 6th July 2024 – On board the ferry
*Sunday 7th July 2024 – 08:00hrs Arrival in Santander* Drive from the Port of Santander approximately 180 miles to the foothills of the Pyrenees in St Jean Pied de Port.
Monday 8th July 2024 – We make our way from St Jean Pied de Port along a selection of trails to Camping Bardenas.
Tuesday 9th July 2024 – Bardenas Reales to Loarre. We travel through the Bardenas Reales Natural Park, Los Banales Roman ruins and on to our campsite in the shadow of Castillo de Loarre.
Wednesday 10th July 2024 – Rest Day in Loarre. Giving you the chance to explore the local area,including Castillo De Loarre (Loarre Castle)
Thursday 11th July 2024 – Loarre through the Sierra y Canones de la Guarra to Ainsa. On the edge of the Ordesa National Park. See what Lonely Planet has to say about the Medieval town of Ainsa >>
Friday 12th July 2024 – Ainsa to Vielha
Saturday 13th July 2024 – Vielha to Llavorsi through the Val D’Aran.
Sunday 14th July 2024– Rest Day in Llavorsi. White water rafting can be booked locally, along with hiking, canyoning and other activites (not included)
Monday 15th July 2024– Drive the famous Smuggler’s Route into Andorra via the village of Tor, where we will stop for a cuppa. We travel through the ski resorts of Andorra and leave this principality to the east and climb to the highest point of our trip at 2644 metres, before we return to Llavorsi on the road. Please note there is now a 25 euro charge to visit Pic Negra, which is payable on the day (NOT INCLUDED).
Tuesday 16th July 2024 – Espot circular – this awesome route clings to the side of the mountains with most tracks above 2000 metres above sea level
Wednesday 17th July 2024 – We leave camp and make our way south west through the Désert de Monegros, a semi-desert in the Aragon Region.
Thursday 18th July 2024 – The last chance to relax back in Loarre. Swim in the pool, relax or visit the local village where you can enjoy a cold drink and some tapas.
Friday 19th July 2024 – Our route takes us north through canyons, passes and the vulture viewing area at Mirador De Los Buitres ( Mallos de Riglos). The tour will conclude mid afternoon near Jaca. This gives anyone travelling to Santander the opportunity to make their way towards the coast. For those driving back through France, I would suggest heading north towards Canfranc or Pau.
*Saturday 20th July 2024 – We make an early start to Bilbao for the 13:00hrs ferry (11:00hrs check in).
*Sunday 21st July 2024 – 17:30hrs arrival in the UK (Portmsouth)
*Details of the most suitable Brittany Ferries Return sailings have been included for illustration. Ferries can be booked directly at https://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/. As a guide to ferry cost, on 11/11/23 the quoted cost for a pick up with roof tent (6m x 2.6m) was £1380 return including 4 berth inside cabin. Prices may be subject to change. The tour will be lead by a professional 4×4 guide and instructor (Adam), who has explored Spain for many years. English, French and Spanish speaking.
I appreciate that some may want to extend their stay or travel onwards after the tour, so this is flexible. Get in touch if you would like help or advice regarding ferries.
12 nights campsite fees included 7th to 19th June inclusive.
If travelling by Brittany Ferries please allow 3 nights on board the Brittany Ferries ships. Two outbound and one return.
EARLY BOOKING PRICE – Tour non-Ferry option £1695 for one vehicle and two occupants. This price is valid until 31st January 2024 as an early booking offer. From 1st February 2024, the price will be £1895 per vehicle.
A 25% deposit is required for all bookings. If booking with less than 90 days notice, the balance is payable in full.
