SUMMARY:Wild Wales 4×4 Explorer Tour Thursday 12th November 2026 – Strata Florida and Crychan Forest
DESCRIPTION:Strata Florida 4×4 Adventure – Wild Wales Explorer Tour\nExplore one of Wales’ most iconic 4×4 green lane routes\nExperience a full day of guided 4×4 green laning through the spectacular landscapes of Mid Wales and the Cambrian Mountains, including the legendary Strata Florida route.\nThe Wild Wales Explorer Tour is designed for 4×4 owners who want to use their own vehicle to explore some of the best legal green lanes in Wales, supported throughout the day by experienced local guidance.\nExpect remote mountain scenery, historic routes, river crossings, technical sections and a genuine Welsh 4×4 adventure.\nTour Details\nDate: Thursday 12th November 2026\nStart: Llandovery, Carmarthenshire\nTime: 09:45 – welcome, introduction and safety briefing\nFinish: Approximately 16:30 near Pontrhydfendigaid\nPrice: £120 per vehicle, including VAT\nDuration: Full day\nVehicle: Bring and drive your own suitable 4×4\nThe planned route includes Crychan Forest, Trecastle Roman Road and Strata Florida, travelling south to north through the heart of Mid Wales.\nRoutes may be adjusted on the day according to weather, river levels, lane conditions, temporary closures or other circumstances.\nYour Wild Wales 4×4 Adventure\nThe day begins in Llandovery before heading into the quieter landscapes of Mid Wales.\nFrom here, we leave the main roads behind and explore a carefully selected combination of minor roads and legal green lanes as we make our way towards the Cambrian Mountains.\nAs the day progresses, the terrain becomes increasingly remote, with changing surfaces, technical sections and some spectacular views across the Welsh countryside.\nThe highlight is Strata Florida, one of the best-known 4×4 green lane routes in Wales.\nThere will be opportunities to stop during the day, including a wilderness lunch break. Please bring your own packed lunch and drinks.\nThe tour finishes at approximately 16:30 near Pontrhydfendigaid and Strata Florida Abbey.\nWhat’s Included?\nYour Wild Wales Explorer Tour includes:\n\nFull-day guided 4×4 green lane tour\nExperienced and qualified 4×4 instructor\nMore than 35 years of experience exploring Wales by 4×4\nExtensive local route knowledge\nLead/support vehicle equipped for emergencies\nGarmin inReach satellite communication\nPMR/CB radio communication supplied for participants\nGuidance throughout technical sections of the route\nSmall-group experience\n\nThe aim isn’t simply to follow a route. You benefit from local knowledge, experienced guidance and support throughout the day while discovering parts of Wales that many visitors never get to experience.\nIs This Tour Suitable for Me?\nThe Wild Wales Explorer is aimed at 4×4 owners with a suitable vehicle and some previous experience.\nDifficulty: Moderate to technical\nSome sections can become significantly more challenging following prolonged rain or poor weather.\nWe recommend a vehicle equipped with:\n\nLow-range gearing or an equivalent capable 4×4 system\nMinimum All Terrain tyres in good condition\nSuitable ground clearance\nFront and rear recovery points\n\nThe tour is suitable for vehicles such as the INEOS Grenadier, Land Rover Defender, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi L200 and similar capable 4×4 vehicles.\nIf you’re unsure whether your vehicle is suitable, please contact us before booking.\nNew to Green Laning?\nThis particular tour is not recommended as a first experience of technical 4×4 driving.\nIf you’re relatively new to driving your vehicle on challenging terrain, please contact us. We can advise whether this tour is suitable or recommend a more appropriate guided experience.\nBring Your Own 4×4\nThis is an owner-driver tour.\nYou drive your own vehicle throughout the adventure, allowing you to gain experience and confidence in the 4×4 you actually own.\nWe strongly believe in learning what a standard, capable 4×4 can do before assuming extensive modifications are necessary.\nImportant Vehicle Information\nGreen laning naturally carries some risk to your vehicle.\nVegetation can cause light scratches to paintwork, while rocks, ruts and uneven surfaces can potentially cause cosmetic damage to wheels, tyres or other components.\nBy booking, you acknowledge that you are driving your own vehicle on unsurfaced routes and accept the normal risks associated with this type of activity.\nStrata Florida & Weather Conditions\nStrata Florida includes several water crossings and its condition can change considerably depending on recent rainfall.\nSafety always comes first.\nIf river levels, weather, lane conditions, closures or other circumstances make part of the planned route unsuitable, an alternative route may be used.\nThis is one of the advantages of joining a guided tour: the route can be adapted using current conditions and local knowledge rather than simply following a predetermined GPX track.\nWhat to Bring\nPlease bring:\n\nSuitable outdoor clothing and footwear\nWaterproof clothing\nPacked lunch\nDrinks for the day\nAny personal medication\nA fully fuelled vehicle\n\nDogs are welcome, but owners remain responsible for them throughout the day. Dogs should be kept under appropriate control and on a lead where required.\nBooking\nPrice: £120 per vehicle including VAT.\nThe price is per vehicle rather than per person, making the tour suitable for individuals, couples, friends and families travelling together.\nFull payment is required to secure your place.\nGift vouchers are also available.\nPlease refer to our full booking terms and conditions for cancellation and amendment conditions.\nPrefer Your Own Tour?\nPrivate & Bespoke 4×4 Tours in Wales\nIf you’d prefer to explore Wales without joining a scheduled group, private guided tours are also available.\nA private tour can be tailored around your vehicle, experience and the type of terrain you would like to explore.\nThey’re particularly suitable for:\n\nIndividual vehicles\nCouples and families\nSmall groups of friends\n4×4 clubs and owners’ groups\nOwners wanting more individual guidance\nMulti-day Welsh adventures\n\nPrivate tours start from £360 per day.\nPlease contact us to discuss dates and requirements.\nMore 4×4 Adventures\nOff Road Adventure Travel also offers a range of guided UK and overseas 4×4 adventures, including tours in Wales, Wiltshire, Spain, the Pyrenees, Galicia and Albania.\nWhether you’re looking for a single day exploring the Welsh countryside or a longer international adventure, there are options for 4×4 owners looking to experience more from their vehicles.\nWatch the Adventure\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtsN9687n9M[/embedyt ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtsN9687n9M%5B/embedyt )]\nReady to Explore Strata Florida?\nBring your own 4×4 and discover one of Wales’ most famous green lane adventures with experienced local guidance.\nThursday 12th November 2026\n£120 per vehicle including VAT\nStart: Llandovery – 09:45\nBook your place on the Wild Wales Explorer Tour below \n \n
